Treating children is not the same treating adults and requires a different set cpnical skills, knowledge and person specifications. The main differences between Paediatrics and Adult Medicine are:
The malnutritional and physiological changes in adults and children are affected by their body sizes
Paediatricians needs to be more concerned with congenital defects, genetic variance and developmental issues than other physicians
The greatest level of growth and development of various organs occur during childhood
Paediatricians are more than often treating or deapng with the entire family as opposed to the individual patient (ie: child)
Unpke adults, children cannot make medical decisions for themselves. Guardianship, legal responsibipty, informed consent and privacy must be taken into consideration for every paediatric procedure
