What are the requirements for being eligible to undertake the MRCP Part 1 examination?

All candidates must have 12 month medical experience.

How many attempts do I have?

As soon as you have been accepted to sit the MRCP Part 1 examination, you are entitled to an unlimited number of attempts.

How do I withdraw my MRCP Part 1 application?

Candidates can withdraw their MRCP Part 1 application by writing a letter to the admission office. Candidates will get a 90% refund (minus 10% administration fees) if the withdraw prior to the closing date. The full refund will be declined if candidates withdraw after the closing date.

All candidates must have completed 12 months of medical experience/training.

How many attempts do I have?

MRCP PACES FAQ

When should I send my application?

Candidates are advised to send in their application as early as possible due to the limited number of examination places. The cut off date is four weeks prior to the PACES examination.

What are the requirements for being eligible to undertake the MRCP PACES examination?

Candidates are eligible for the MRCP PACES examination once they have passed or been exempted from the MRCP Part 1 and MRCP Part 2 written examinations. All applicants are also required to have two and a half years experiences in which 12 months were spent as a Senior House Officer. It is also assumed that all applicants have had acute medicine training for at least six months. If you do not have acute medicine training you are expected to obtain the experience before applying.

When does my period of eligibility start and end?

Candidates are eligible for the MRCP PACES examination at the second diet of the PACES AFTER they have successfully passed the MRCP Part 2 examination. Each candidate is given three attempts over a three year period to pass PACES.

How can I use experience gained overseas towards MRCP PACES?

Overseas experience and training may be acceptable if they meet the PACES examination regulation. Contact the Royal Colleges for more details.

What do I do if I am undertaking the MRCP PACES examination overseas?

Candidates need to contact the PACES organisers in their own countries.

When do I found out when and where the MRCP PACES examination is taking place?

Candidates will find out the time and location of the MRCP PACES two weeks prior to the examination.

How will I found out if I have been accepted to take the MRCP PACES examination?

An email will be sent out to all applicant confirming the receipt of application. A letter will be sent out to confirm if you have been offered a placement at the exam. Timescales of when the confirmation letters are sent vary however they are usually sent a week or two after the closing date.

How do I withdraw my MRCP PACES application?

Candidates can withdraw their PACES application by writing a letter to the relevant Royal College of entry. Fax and emails as long as the signed letter is also sent. Candidates will get a 90% refund (minus 10% administration fees) if the withdraw prior to the closing date. The full refund will be declined if candidates withdraw after the closing date.
